On Sunday 18th April the Alford Mart building will celebrate its 116th birthday. It was opened on Tuesday 18th April 1905. Built by Messrs. Reith and Anderson, cattle salesmen, Aberdeen, the architects were Messrs. William Teunon & Son, Turriff. Contractors for the building were: mason – Mr. Alexander Grant, Alford; carpenter – Messrs. J. Gordon & Son, Insch; slater – Messrs S. and W. Christie, Dyce; plumber – W. Leask, Alford; painter and glazier – Mr. Frank W. Watt, Alford. The total tender amounted to over £1,000. On March 30 this year, the Heritage Centre and Museum celebrated its 30th anniversary. We hope to be able to mark this occasion soon by reopening for the season.
